A keratin treatment and permanent straightening are not the same thing.
Here’s the difference:
Keratin treatment = mainly a smoothing/frizz-control treatment. It makes hair softer, shinier, and straighter-looking, but it does not permanently change the hair structure. Your natural texture gradually comes back over a few months.
Permanent straightening (Japanese straightening/rebonding/chemical relaxers) = actually breaks and restructures the hair bonds to make hair permanently straight until new hair grows in.
So with keratin:
curls/waves may loosen
hair becomes easier to manage
results fade over time
With permanent straightening:
hair stays straight permanently
roots grow out natural
stronger chemicals and usually more damage risk
